A compact heraldic plaque in rosewood-toned timber with gilt scrollwork, carrying a pair of crossed swords behind a deep-relief lion's head crest framed in acanthus leaves and laurel swags.

The Piece

The crest is the work here: a lion's head cast in antique brass with a silvered mane, set within a burst of scrolled acanthus, topped by a small crowned lion finial and hung with laurel drapes to either side.

The two swords cross behind it — one with a rounded, cross-hatched pommel, the other with a foliate pommel and a beast-head quillon — both with ornately chased grips and cross-guards.

The board itself is a warm rosewood tone with a dark edge moulding and fine gilt line work following its scalloped outline.
